Melody: O gamla klang- och jubeltid [O alte Burschenherrlichkeit]

Oh, joy and glamour of the past, We never shall forget you And you will be, through war and fast, A solace to think back to Soon our jokes are void and null Our song is silent, all is dull O Jerum, Jerum, Jerum O quae mutatio rerum Now close the circle of our feast For happiness’ protection The troubles of the World decreased We swear each other affection So lift your glass, let it be heard Still gods are walking in this world Among our cups and goblets, Among our cups and goblets! This song is often sung last. This is just the first and last verse, but the song is about how students, though they may disappear into the boring world, will forever remain students at heart. The third verse mentions the four traditional academic faculties: Philosophy, Law, Theology and Medicine. People will stand when singing of their own faculty. In the last verse, you stand and hold your neighbours’ hands, after which you don’t return to your seat.
